I have just downloaded and installed Backup and Sync. I'm running MacOS Sierra on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro.The menu item comes up.
However, I get no dialog to authenticate to my Google account. Clicking on the menu item just says 'Not signed in'. I click on the 3 dots menu, the options are About, Help, Send Feedback and Quit (Preferences is disabled).
If I click on any of the options (including Quit) the menu item just closes the menu and then will not respond to any clicks. I have to manually kill the process to get rid of it.Any ideas?
On the off chance that you have introduced Google Drive through Mac App Store, you can take thusly: Open Launchpad, and sort Google Drive in the hunt box at the best. Hang on Google Drive with your mouse until the point that the symbol starts to squirm and show X. Elective, you can press and hold ALT key until all apps begin to shake. To Fix Google Drive File Sync Issues: - Click Google drive icon and select Visit Google Drive on the web - Go to your Google drive folder, click More and select All Items - Select or highlight all.

Same issue here. I have installed macOS Sierra 10.12.6 (16G29). After the login in Backup and Sync, the app shows me a window and when I press the button GOT IT, the application closes/crashes completely.
I've noticed that, after the login, if I keep pressing ESC, the windows GOT IT disappears and I can go to the next steps, but it closes/crashes after selecting Google Drive to be placed in my Mac. Please, does anyone know how to solve this? It's urgent and important. Thank you in advance! AdnGeo 17/8/2017, 3:53 น. I have spent more than a day trying to connect Backup and Sync with the cloud but it just doesn't seem to work. Such a waste of time.
It gets stuck in the final step 'sync only these folders' where it doesn't show me the folders. And when i click 'Start' without finding the folders it shows me error 855EC31E ('something went wrong'). FYI I'm based in China and use VPN on my Mac Sierra recent purchase computer. I'm easily able to access web files and google stuff. Just not been able to sync this. Urgent support is requested since I'm unable to send any error log through the app.
Edwin Plag 5/9/2017, 13:29 น. I too am having similar issues on my MacBook Pro (OS Sierra 10.12.6).
After installing Backup and Sync to replace the Google Photos Uploader, the new software seemed to work through one complete sync process, though I later noticed a large number of photos missing from Google Photos (photos that had been there before, when I was using the Google Photos Uploader. After that first, apparently incomplete, sync, Backup and Sync never ran smoothly again, instead apparently 'freezing' somewhere in the process. I can't be sure where it hung up because all I could get once the icon animation stopped was the rainbow pinwheel, no access to Backup and Sync menu after that (as someone else has said, I could not even find a way to force quit and had to resort to restarting my MBP). I have tried installing the latest version of Backup and Sync, to no avail.
It's still getting hung up and freezing before any real sync can begin. At this point, I have Backup and Sync shut down and not set to start up on computer start (the default setting; and I had to catch in during a computer restart to even get to these settings!). After 8 years with Google Docs/Drive and two with Google Photos, Is it time I look for other services? Aundre Dukes, 21:52 น. Here's what worked for me: There should be a little 'cloud' icon in the white bar at the very top of your screen. When you click on it, you can choose the icon that looks like a file folder with the Google Drive symbol on it.
A pop-up window will appear with all your files that you have put in the drive. If you click on the link that looks like the Google Drive arrows, you get the same thing only in a window on your Internet browser. By the way, I used to have a 'Backup and Sync' icon on my Dock, but for some reason, that doesn't work anymore. Nor does it work to click directly on the Backup and Sync icon in my Applications Folder.
The only thing that works now is the icon at the top of my screen. PRaphaelson 5/11/2017, 10:12 น. Really struggling with Backup and Sync on OSX - plugging in a digital camera triggers the 'Backing up Items from. message - but then it seems to do nothing. Investigating further, I can see that the files are being transferred from the camera to a UploaderTemp folder, but it's being done very slowly - about 1 image every few minutes. Is this how it's supposed to work?
What happens if you have 100GB of photos on the camera, but you don't have that much free space on your system HD? Smportis 19/2/2018, 12:50 น. I had a honeymoon period of a couple of months. The software worked fine. (after some intervention by google tech support). Now with OSX 10.13.3 it's completely broken again.
Backup and support crashes shortly after trying to sync. It's incredibly disappointing that Google runs projects like this with essentially zero quality control. They need to let us know if we're customers or guinea pigs. If the latter, I expect to be paid for my services, and to trust my files and workflow to someone else. Judderbug 26/3/2018, 3:29 น. I have a G-Suite account so was able to get some actual tech support from Google. Without coming right out and admitting that Backup and Sync is broken and may never be reliable, the technician pretty strongly implied this. She said the best solution was to use a tool called Google Drive Stream, which is included with a G-Suite subscription.
It does mostly the same things as Drive, but with a few annoying workflow quirks. My biggest complaint is that the Drive folder is now actually a mounted volume, so it can only reside on the desktop. I'd like to get my hands on the product designer who came up with that annoyance. But it works. And it's been stable through the last couple of.x OS updates. It's a shame that Google offers a product like Google drive and then refuses to support it.
Even if it's free. They should make the thing work or not make it at all. At least a G-suite subscription is only a few $$ a month, and comes with double the drive space of a free account. Sergio Bilello 11/4/2018, 11:18 น.
I have been trying this for 3 days. The instructions below are basic and I have been reinstalling (and yes I know how) for three days and i get the sligin screen and its been trying to login to my account for 3 days! This is urgent I have written in several times and I can see that TONS of users out ther ahve the same problem. It works on my other machine NOT this one and Ive sent the diagnostic googled this over and over and there appears to be no fix. This is a MAC OS and its the latest version. PLEASE ADVISE i have sent diagnostics and am at the point of giving up and moving my critical files to drop box who dont change their product at whim.
Please help ALLL I NEED is my files to show in my finder. ASAP rsukhia 24/4/2018, 23:55 น. Found the issue with some of our machines.
It was running through the sync and when it hit the installer mount, which somehow was still in existence in the tmp folder on the Mac. I was about to get to a point where I could see the 'Ghost' volume, but I'd fancy a guess that removing the offending file in the tmp folder would also work. Goes without saying but I'll say it anyways, do so at your own risk. Maybe Google didn't account for the fact that MacOS users might 'switch user' during or recently after install?Found the offending file by spending far too long reading the synclog.log file. If it helps Mac users, this is what I did to get everything working properly again. I am on High Sierra 10.13.6 on an iMac and a MacBook Pro. First, make sure you have some form of recovery; Backup; Time Machine; Google Drive (yes, as long as it is there it will not disappear with the machine changes you need to make).1 Quit backup and sync. Start Activity Monitor (Spotlight search activity or use the Launcher search activity). In activity Monitor, search google and when it finds the running process, kill it (top left icon, a circle with a cross in it).2 Delete Backup and Sync form the applications folder (If you try this before stopping the process it will not let you).3 Open Finder and Go to Library.
Hey Louis, I ended up searching that and it ended up working for me. Not sure why I couldn't find the folder manually. These are the recommendations I used to get it working:'Do this:Zola4:15 PMOpen Finder.
From the menu bar, click Go. Towards the bottom of the dropdown list, click Go to Folder.Zola4:15 PMA small window will open. Copy and paste this exact text into the window: /Library/Application Support/Google and click GoZola4:16 PMYou should see the Google drive folder. Now this does not contain your personal files. It's the app's data.Zola4:17 PMDelete it and empty your Trash'I got mine working by deleting/moving everything from the Google Drive folder, then deleting the folder itself and reinstalling B&S.'
